My high school is putting on White Christmas this year, so naturally I went to go see it.
Unfortunately, many things went wrong tonight.
first off, they had some problems with one of their fly operators as she somehow managed to bring in the fly with the giant hanging starts too far.
It hit the ground and twisted the star so it was facing backwards, so everyone thought that the cables holding it up broke (they were sketchy to begin with, I helped them hang them)
So, everyone is freaking out thinking the star is going to fall and crush an actor. The next scene change had to be done with the grand drape closed.
They had to bring down the fly, spin it around and fly it back out.
For some reason their fly op didnt understand what “fly it out” meant, causing the scene change to be even longer.
After all that was fixed and everyone was beginning to clam down, the lead actress dislocated her knee during a dance scene.
The show had to be stopped. Everyone scrambled around trying to figure out what was to happen next. The only actor with an understudy was the lead male.
Long story short, the show was cancelled, another show was added to the calendar, and they are opting to replace their fly op for she has been constantly making mistakes.
Chances are, I will be replacing her. Which I’m excited for, but at the same time, she is a student and I am not. So I feel a little bad. But she has started to put others in danger, so replacing her with someone who knows what their doing sounds like a really good idea..even if it has to be a non-student.
